Wreaths, those attractive and fragrant decorations can be displayed on our front door at Christmas or in the premises at any time of year. You can easily make your own unique and beautiful wreaths to showcase your Home Grown herbs and flowers, or to display the pods, cones and seed heads can be found in the woods or roadside in the fall.
The first part of the fun – the collection of materials. Start in your own backyard and look for interesting flower heads that may be dry, the seed heads with unique shapes, such as poppies, tulips, columbine, or iris, or the feathery heads of grasses. Silver Dollar and Japanese leaders will be lanterns dried, and ready to pick. Clusters of cones can be found on and under the evergreen trees and nut trees have shed seeds from husk hazelnuts, oak or chestnut, maple and winged maple seeds, just waiting to be collected.
Your wreath will be more interesting if you are planning for some contrasts, textures and colors – brilliant chestnut near the fringe of hemlock cone or cluster of dark brown walnut shell near the silvery feathers ornamental grasses. Place the same item in different positions – cone can sit on its base lie on its side, or even be placed up the stem. Just make sure that your pods, cones, acorns, seed heads and foliage has matured and dry. Green mass can get moldy and destroy all your hard work.
Cut a sturdy corrugated cardboard in a roll at the base. Use white glue or glue gun to make the materials to each other and to the base. Strip big knob, and glue pieces form the petals on the edges to form a wreath border. When it dries, the beginning of a wreath with the largest pieces you collected – the largest cones, teasel head, large pods, and so on. Glue them in place around the wreath.
Then add in the average units – acorns, thistle heads, small cone, seed husks or dried flower heads. Make sure that you hold in different compositions, and again, I think, contrasting colors and textures, as you glue the pieces in place. Finally, add small pieces to fill any places still shows cardboard. If you have a feathery heads of grass or dried flower heads, they might even be broken apart and used to fill in small spaces, adding even more texture, color and depth.
After the glue dries, take it outside of the wreath and spray it with clear varnish. If you want, you can add a few ribbons, beads or berries to make a theme Christmas wreaths. Glue tab to the back, and your wreath complete. The Mellow natural tones make this an appropriate decoration for the autumn and winter, and even throughout the year, memories of hikes and enjoyed the garden treasures.
